Red Squirrels
We are pleased to announce the arrival of Steven and Danny our Red Squirrels.
They arrived with us on September 8th aged 11 weeks . They are beautiful inquisitive little creatures , but there is a serious side to them being here in the centre. As Kielder Forest is one of the last remaining strongholds of the Red Squirrel we will soon be introducing two female squirrels to Danny and Steven and hoping that nature will take its course so that we will have a controlled captive breeding programe allowing us to help sustain the wild population at Kielder.We are working with the Wildlife Trust and all activities will be strictly controlled by DEFRA and other local agencies.
