ENJOY A FALCONRY EXPERIENCE

The centre operates a variety of Falconry Courses

 

INTRODUCTION TO FALCONRY

A 3 hour course (11.00 to 14.00) during which we will introduce you to our birds and show you how

To care for them, the course will include:-

 

·                   A tour of the Centre.

·                   A basic introduction to the falconer’s art – how to tie the falconers knot, attach the swivel, oiling jesses etc.

·                   The correct method used to pick up a bird, weigh a bird and place it back on its perch.

·                   Participate in a training or flying session and learn how to receive a bird onto the fist.

 After the course you are welcome to spend the remainder of the day at the Centre and perhaps

 help with the feeding!

Cost – Children (9 to 14) £55 per person, Adults £75 per person

 FAMILY EXPERIENCE:

 Introduction to Falconry + Mini Hawk Walk (2 Adults + 2 Children ) £150

BIRD MANAGEMENT COURSE

 A 5 hour course (11.00 to16.00) devised to give a basic understanding of the requirements for

 those people who are considering purchasing a bird of prey. The course will include:-

·                     A tour of the Centre.

·                     The falconers knot, fitting and maintenance of swivel, jesses.

·                     Basic bird handling techniques, picking up a bird, weighing a bird and placing the bird back on its perch.

·                     Correct housing, perches, including hygiene etc.

·                     Basic flying techniques including training methods.

·                     The birds diet, different types of food available and methods of feeding.

·                     Choosing and purchasing a suitable bird;

Cost £100 per person – Please note that this course can be extended to a number of days to ensure that the participant reaches the required standard before purchasing a bird.

  

CHILDREN COURSE

An ideal holiday treat for younger children aged between 8 and 14 years. The course will last approximately 2 hours and is ideal for children interested in nature and birds in general. The course will include a tour of the Centre, children will learn how birds fly and hunt, how feathers work, they will dissect an Owl pellet and learn how the digestive system works. Finally, participants will be taught how to hold a bird and have the opportunity to hold a small owl.

Cost £45 per person
